Question: This has happen to me twice: I went to a derm for treatment of my psoriasis. I tell the derm that I'm interested in something beside the topical ointments that I can get from my regular physician. I then hear, "I don't really deal with much psoriasis, you might want to see a derm that specializes in that." Then they send me on my way with a couple of Dovenex refills and the phone number of some derm who isn't accepting new patients. The first time this happen was when I inquired about UVB light treatment. The second time was when I asked about soratane. The second time I even called ahead to make sure they "specialize" in treating psoriasis. I guess derms make enough monies off of zits and spider-veins to pick and choose who they want to treat. If anyone knows of dermatologist in the Austin TX area who can aggressively treat psoriasis please let me know because I'm tired of being blown off by useless zit doctors.
Answer: The NPF maintains a list of US doctors that have registered with them as being interested in treating psoriasis. Not a guarantee, but souds like a place for you to start. Contact info at http://www.psoriasis.org Also, if you're a member, they have chat boards at the site and you might post there as well looking for a derm.
