Alternative to Surgery for Varicose Veins ???

Question:
Does any one know of excercise, diet, medicines, life style changes that will alleviate or slow the onset of varicose veins in legs? The literature says the consticting of large veins at the hips, thighs and stomach causes the enlargement of veins in the lower leg. Pregnancies often create these conditions and cause varicose veins. Sitting for long periods can also create such constrictions. Also jobs requiring standing for long periods can contribute to varicose veins even though large veins are not constricted. Literature also says varicose veins are more common among women then men. Tight pressure hose can reduce the appearance but does not cure the varicose veins. Surgery is the recommended route. Are there any known alternatives?

Answer: -I remember some doctor years ago saying Vitamin K was good for varicose veins but since I have never tried it nor know anybody who has, it just is something which is in my memory. -I also understand that if your bowels are not moving regularly or cleanly that you have a build up of toxins in the colon that puts a strain on your blood carrying/veins systems. As I understand it purifying the blood and exercise, as well as taking care to not cross your legs a lot helps. There is a book out called "Prescription For Nutritional Healing" by Balch, that gives very good nutritional, herbal, vitamin therapy recommendations as well as recommendations for changes in lifestyle and methods for treatment. The author is an M.D. and his coauthor, and wife is a nutritionist, apparently they've been involved in alternative medicine for awhile, very well written, it came to my attention when I saw it being used as a reference manual by two different health food stores that I use. There's also a treatment available, injection of a substance into the vein that causes the vein to close up and be reabsorbed by the body, I have no knowledge of how well that works. Hope this helps.
