Question: Get a good pair of compression stockings, preferably in the 20-30 therapeutic compression level. You may just have some swelling on nerves in your calf area. You say you have no other health problems but are you obese or over weight ? There is only so much room within the boundaries of the skin and the addition of a bunch of fluid (swelling of additional water or blood) can cause a great deal of pain in that area. This is why you get relief when elevated. You may have a malfunctioning valve in one of your veins that is causing the blood to pool in your lower extremities. Do you feel a sort of hardness in your calf area like it is overfull ? Give the stockings a try !! You can try your local pharmacy, they usually carry the Futuro brand of medical supplies. These guys make all sorts of canes, wrist and knee supports etc. In my area the mens black or blue dress socks with the firm level of support by Futuro are about $11.00/pair.
Answer: I had a sudden onset of knee pain and swelling, restrictive joint movement. I bought a couple of knee braces and used the adage of R.I.D.E R: Rest (yeah right, well as much as you can) I: Ice, use it a couple times a day D: decompression (the brace or stockings) E: Elevation These didn't work too well so I tried a trial of Vioxx and I'm on the 4th day, now I have relief.
