Question: I ask you professionals you advice. 6 weeks ago, I had varicose veins removed on my left leg. The pain is gone and I'm walking just fine and have returned to work. However, there are lumps and bumps where the surgery was performed. the doctor informed me that the lumps and bumps will just absorb and then they will go away. Would massage faciliate the absorbption of the lumps and bumps from the removal of varicose veins?
Answer: -Interesting question! Though my training has taught me that varicose veins are a definite contraindication for massage, we never really spent a great deal of time on post-operative after the veins are gone. I did find this website though... http://www.body1.com/chattranscripts/v1032503.htm And would like to know more myself on this subject. -This question should be raised; Was it the Salene tx.( plus chemicals ) or the vein stripping, very painfull? Before I get your response; It will aid in circulation ABOVE the lessions therefore helping drainage to the site. No massage to the site in acute, 6 weeks ago; you are now working and in the sub acute stage. Techniques like Skin rolling and MLD will help. At the end of the day and you see that the affected leg is swollen, try what is known as "Beurgers Excersise". Simple explanation; sit on a couch with your swollen leg nearest the backrest. Elevate your ankle to the top of the couch. Wait until your foot blanches ( turns white ),then sit normal with your foot on the floor until you feel the leg fill. repeat three times. You have done a Vascular Flush. It will aid in the anastimosis ( creation ), of new vascular pathways.
