Question: Over the last 3 - 4 years I have had the occasional varicose vein burst on my leg and the normal treatment has been a Voltaren and Hirodoid gel. This time the vein has burst and is quite large measuring 13cm x 6cm raised and painful. Now I can't be bothered going to the doctor because I know what will be said as far as treatment goes, my question is should I be doing my normal exercise. I have been working out for 3/4 hr a day and don't really want to stop or rest as the enthusiasm will fade. Any experiences here as far as burst veins go, please .
Answer: -I doubt that there is much risk of clots with Voltaren. It you have a "burst" vein then it may be the wrong treatment. If you mean that it is just a large bulging vein then that is different. Voltaren is not contra-indicated for people with bleeding issues. Go and see the chemist as they understand the issues and will give good advice. -It's all available. But there are different degrees of varicose veins and I have been told professionally that injecting and laser treatment won't help me. I need the full strip and those horrible stockings afterwards. -I have had the large bulging veins for a while, and yes this is burst. Those measurements I gave are the results of the bruising effect which come instantly after either a slight knock or brushing of the vein on something. I have had a few veins burst in the past including on my toe but never while I have been exercising extensively.
